The Xstrata Mine2Mine was first run 22 years ago and has grown into a popular event on Mount Isa’s social calendar. The population has embraced the race and many have accepted the challenge of the 21km run.
This year a new event has been added to the program - the Sportspower Walk Challenge. This is an individuals only event for those wanting to walk the entire 21.1km half marathon course. The Walk Challenge will start at 6.00am and all competitors MUST have lights and/or reflective gear due to the light levels at that time of the morning.
For some the 6km run has been a more accommodating goal, with the distance attracting families and groups of friends who have simply walked the course to enjoy the experience of participating in the event.
This year is the 23rd year of the Mine2Mine race and the host association, The Mount Isa Running and Triathlon Club (Isa Rats), are hoping to make it an event to remember.
This year, the prize money for the winner will be $500.00, with an added incentive of an extra $500.00if the winner also beats the race record of 1:14:04 set by Stafford Thompson in 2007. THATS RIGHT - $1000.00 for the winner if the race record is broken.
Come along and be part of the experience on Sunday 24th July 2011 from 6am until noon!!! There will be something for everyone including:-
Xstrata 21.1km Half marathon from George Fisher Mine to Kruttschnitt Oval
